Welcome to the JKA International teacher training section. The plan is to offer JKA training to interested overseas parties with the goal of spreading the JKA’s techniques, history, and culture around the world.
If you have not already please read through all of the JKA website for background information. We will specifically cover teacher training here but it will draw upon the information detailed throughout the website.

Kyu thru Junshodan testing method
—Kyu Testing—
Big Cup
- if 3/10 completed then full test Small Cup level
- if 2/10 completed then go to Small Cup, test until 1 completion, & stop
- if 1/10 completed then stop
Small Cup
- if 3/10 completed then full test Middle Cup level
- if 2/10 completed then go to Middle Cup, test until 1 completion, & stop

- if 2/10 completed then go to Candle, test until 1 completion, & stop

- if 3/10 completed then full test Around the World level

- if 2/10 completed then go to Lighthouse , test until 1 completion, & stop
- if 1/10 completed then stop

- if 1/10 completed then stop
Moshikame
- 1st chance: if 100 or more continue to Junshodan test, if more than or equal to 50 but less than 100 then stop; level is 1Kyu; if less than 50 go to 2nd chance.
- 2nd chance: if 50 then stop; level is 1Kyu, if less than 50 level is 2 Kyu
*Note: Extension level teachers (普及員) may test up to 100 moshikame. 2nd Level instructors (2級指導員) may test up to 1000 moshikame.
EXAMPLES
Calculate scores from the highest trick series where the player achieved (low trick) 3-2-1 (high trick) completions.
*At these levels Moshikame is OPTIONAL
For Kyu Levels –
Moshikame may be attempted twice.
—Junshodan Testing—
Spike – if 5/10 completed then test Airplane level
Airplane – if 5/10 completed then test Swing In level
Swing In – if 5/10 completed then test Around the Prefecture level
Around the Prefecture – if 4/10 completed then test Around Japan level
Around Japan – if 4/10 completed then test Around the World level
Around the World– if 3/10 completed then test Lighthouse level
Lighthouse – if 2/10 completed then test Slip on Stick
Slip on Stick – if 1/10 completed test Moshikame as needed
Moshikame – if previously tested 100+ after the 1 Kyu level then do not need to retest here. If Junshodan is tested independently then the player has one chance to achieve 100 completions.
*If all levels are successfully completed then the player receives Junshodan level.
